If you have a particular interest in something you'd like us to know about - flora or fauna - let us know before you come and stay, and we will do our best to accommodate you, or find someone who can!

Photographers: Keen photographers can go out with a specially-trained driver-guide who can cater specifically to your needs, taking a picnic breakfast for those who don’t want to miss the best light! A lens of 400-500mm minimum is recommended for wildlife work; 24-28mm for landscape work. Our completely open cars will give you the best view of the landscape, with plenty of room for camera gear. We recommend bringing a beanbag which we can fill for you; you may like a tripod for landscape or macro work. We can also do ‘safari slideshows’ on a laptop in the evenings to give inspiration and tips on wildlife and landscape photography in Kenya. We can also supply on special request the exceptional Kenya-basaed photographer Paolo Torchio (at an extra rate per day) for an individual or group wanting the input of a highly experienced professional.

Birdwatching: Ol Pejeta has a wealth of bird species at all times of year and the birdsong is constant especially in and around camp. Keen birders and those with only a passing interest will find the variety fascinating. Migrants going north and south are prolific at certain times of year; one can easily see 80-100 species over a 3-4 night visit. A bird walk (often getting excellent sightings of other wildlife such as hippo) along the river is highly recommended.

Walking, Running & The Lewa Marathon: If your interest is in walking, we can do morning and/or afternoon walks across the varied terrain of the Conservancy. The pace is slow and easy, as we walk to observe things and get a totally different perspective on the landscape than from a car. There are wonderful walks along the river straight from camp, if the bush isn't too thick at certain times of year. If you have a particular interest in birds or tracking, for example, we can concentrate on your chosen interests. Runners: bring your running shoes! A run on the plains with herds of animals in the distance and Mt Kenya as the backdrop will be the highlight of your safari. For the truly fit, we can send you out with a real Masai warrior…who will try to keep up! The Lewa Marathon: If you are doing the Lewa full or half, we recommend a few days before the mayhem to stretch your legs and acclimatize to the altitude. Come and stay for a few nights beforehand - or afterwards, to recover!

If you'd like more details on staying for the Lewa Marathon, please email us for details.
